Rachel Applegate was named assistant vice chancellor for faculty affairs in April 2018. She provides leadership with responsibilities supporting the lifecycle of all faculty and librarians: hiring, promotion and tenure, leaves, sabbaticals and titles. She oversees information systems for faculty affairs.
Rachel’s key responsibilities include creating and leading professional development programming for administrators, librarians and faculty; collaborating and supporting the campus promotion and tenure process; managing processes related to faculty and librarian records, titles, and leaves; and collaborating with schools to review and approve new hire offer packets, reappointments, retention, retirement, and other faculty affairs matters. Her position serves as a primary resource for the campus on policies and procedures related to faculty hiring, retention, and advancement: human resources for academic appointees. She also partners with the associate vice chancellor for faculty diversity and inclusion to help coordinate recruitment and retention efforts.
Rachel is also an associate professor in the School of Informatics and Computing. She has served on the IUPUI Faculty Council since 2004 and served as the president prior to her appointment as assistant vice chancellor. She received her baccalaureate degree from Mary Washington College, M.A. and M.S.L.S. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Ph.D. in library and information science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
