Student Academic Appointments
Graduate students may be hired to work part-time at IUPUI. For policies and benefits associated with such appointments, please read The Handbook for Student Academic Appointees.
Health Insurance for SAAs and Fellowships Student academic appointees (SAA) appointed at 37.5% FTE or above per semester, and research fellowship recipients with an award of $3,262 or more per semester, will be automatically enrolled in the SAA health insurance plan. All SAAs and fellowship recipients MUST be enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours each semester (summer excluded). There is no out-of-pocket cost to the student for plan premiums.
For those students who have comparable coverage and do not wish to coordinate two separate insurance plans, there is an option to waive out of the plan. A waiver form must be filed by the deadlines listed below with the Assistant Dean of the Faculties, IUPUI, AO 126 (FAX: 317-278-0695):
Fall Waiver - due September 30, 2010
Spring Waiver - due January 30, 2011
There is dependent coverage available for a spouse, same sex partner, or children. It is the responsibility of the student to complete enrollment for dependents by September 15, 2010, and the entire cost is charged to the student.
