Leadership Development

Each year, Faculty Appointments and Advancement (FAA) facilitates meetings and workshops for academic administrators to assist with developing the capabilities needed for effective leadership in the complex environment of higher education, particularly on an urban campus. The various efforts to assist deans and chairs in meeting the demands of their roles also provides participants with an opportunity to get to know and interact with others on campus who serve in similar capacities. Individual consultation on topics of interest or concern to deans and chairs also is available.

NEW! Administrator Leadership Series

Faculty Fellow, Dan Pesut, and Director or Programming, Cheryl Alfred will facilitate this four-part leadership development series focusing on essential factors for leadership success- clarifying strengths and values, behaviors that can derail leaders, and how emotional intelligence supports leadership success. Participants will have a chance to develop a personal or group coaching plan to enhance effective leadership skill sets. Some pre-requisite work will be required. Participants will be notified of required readings and exercises to complete prior to each program. In an effort to support leadership development, the Office of Academic Affairs will provide the requisite books for the first 20 registrants in each session of this series.
